TAMIFLU


Our office gives Tamiflu to established patients to treat and prevent influenza infection. Due to the expense and side effect profile of Tamiflu this policy was developed to maximize patient benefit and decrease patient risk.

Requirements for Treatment

  • Exposure

    • 101 F or greater fever for 48 hours or less

    • Exposed to influenza within the last 3 to 5 days

  • Positive Testing

    • 101 F or greater fever for 48 hours or less

Requirements for Prevention

  • Exposure to influenza within a 3 to 5 day window

  • High risk for influenza complication (examples below)

    • Less than 2 years of age

    • Heart disease

    • Lung disease

    • Other patient illness history may require prevention based on physician discretion
